ROCK U. OVERVIEW - ROCK U. REPLACES TMC SHOWCASE
The Music Cellar's ROCK U. features 7 unique programs that are designed to give players the performing and playing experiences they crave. We took our popular and long running rock band Showcase program and revamped it all with one word in mind: "MORE". More playing. More performing. More choice. More everything!
But even that wasn't enough so we added other features to the programs that haven't been previously offered including jam nights, specialized clinics, more concerts, in-house recording, PA Live/Micing, gear management, stage presence and more depending on the program chosen.
PRICING & PROGRAM INFORMATION
We wanted to make our ROCK U. information accessible instantly. Our pricing is transparent and available. Our program features and requirements are there in black and white. We thought as a busy parent or student, you'd appreciate not having to make phonecalls, hunt for info or attend meetings before you were given any details.
NOT READY FOR THE STAGE JUST YET?
We even created a program for students who might currently be apprehensive to perform live but want the experience of playing in a group to see what it's all about first.
WHO IS ROCK U. FOR?
If you are dedicated student who sings, plays drums, guitar (rhythm/lead) bass guitar or keyboards then ROCK U. is for you. If you are passionate about music and are looking for more opportunities to perform, play, learn, network and create your own band, we have a ROCK U. program just for you. Realistically students should be playing their instrument more than once or twice a week. ROCK U. is for dedicated musicians who will learn their parts and come to rehearsals prepared.
ROCK U. COACHES
Each ROCK U program consists of 1 or 2 multi-instumentalist coaches to oversee, guide and mentor the ROCK U. musicians. The coaches are all professional musicians with years of experience teaching, live performance and recording.
PRIVATE LESSONS AND ROCK U.
Some of our programs require 30 minute weekly private lessons at TMC to ensure the student is learning exactly what is needed to bring their best to the weekly group rehearsals. Our TMC teachers work in conjunction with our ROCK U. coaches to focus on the group class material (if required) so that they're prepared for the weekly group rehearsal. If a student is self-sufficient and does not require as much assistance tthen our teachers will continue teaching their curriculum.
Auditions are required for most programs if the student has not already been a previous TMC Showcase performer. Auditions are held in September in Studio 2 at TMC and students will be given musical pieces a week in advance to prepare for their audition. Auditions may occur throughout the year for students wanting to join mid-year (who will be placed into existing groups if their instrumentation is required or if there is enough interest to begin a new group).
Want to play rock music but not big on today's Pop Music? Easy! Choose ROCK as your genre. Like Pop but don't want to be in a band that leans towards HEAVY METAL? Choose POP. How does playing in a face-melting Metal band with just drums, bass and guitars sound? Choose METAL. Jazz and Blues fan? We've got you covered too. We can't guarantee every genre will be available at all times (it's based on who signs up) but we want you to play the music that fires you up.
STAGE PERFORMANCE PREP
Playing in a class room with a group is a lot different than playing onstage. In a studio setting, everyone's looking at each other, spread out in all different directions, the lights are on - it's almost NOTHING like playing live. So how do you prepare musicians for the stage? You turn your studio into one! In ROCK U. students will be rehearsing in their actual stage formations: guitarists, bassists and keyboards will be standing up, vocalists front and center, drummers at the back, with a heavy black backdrop behind them - and to make it even more realistic, eventually the lights go off, the stage lights come on and now the musicians have to navigate their parts in a realistic stage environment, with lights in their face, not being able to see every little thing - just like it really is. That's HOW we do it.
There will be up to two drummers in the ROCK U. progams. Both drummers will play simultaneously in rehearsals and might even perform together in concert on two drumsets (with the exception of JAZZ U. and ROCK U. FEST) - as our TMC drum students are very experienced playing together with their drum teachers.
You must fill out one registration form per person. No fees are required until you have passed the audition (if an audition is required), and are accepted into the program. Tuition fees are payable on or before the first group class (TBD). If the student is joining a ROCK U. program that doesn't require private lessons at TMC, a $35 registration fee is payable at the time tuition fees are paid.
