Our History: The Music Cellar is a family owned music school owned and operated by husband and wife team, Vaughn & Collette Smith. TMC is Winnipeg's longest operating music school and has been providing Winnipeg families with high quality musical education since David & Brenda Schneider started the music school over 40 years ago in their St. Vital home back in 1984.

 

Vaughn & Collette met in 1993 at JJH Maclean's The Music Place and left their jobs to start Modern Music in 1995. After 10 successful years and hundreds of students, in 2005 they left the province to live and teach in West Vancouver at The Creber Music Academy. Having moved back to Manitoba, they created The Ste-Anne School of Performing Arts (SASPA) from 2007 to 2015 in Ste-Anne, MB. In 2015 they returned to Winnipeg once again to open River Park South Music which operated in the south end of Winnipeg from 2015-2024. The Smith's purchased The Music Cellar from the Schneider's in 2018.

Our Staff: At TMC we want to ensure our students are learning music in a fun and relaxed environment. Our excellent teachers are hired as part of our TMC team which goes a long way to creating a cohesive environment. Many of TMC's teachers come to us from the Desautels Faculty of Music at University of Manitoba, Brandon School of Music or other accredited universities from around the world.
